Our environment
We are acutely aware of the waste and over-consumption so prevalent in the building and manufacturing industries. In the effort to leave the faintest ecological footprint possible, Nicholls Design adheres to the following production principles:
- all timber is either recycled/reclaimed or certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC is an independent, non-government, not-for-profit organisation established to promote the responsible management of the worlds forests.
- applying low volatile organic compound (VOC) natural oil finishes.
- manufacturing and designing to highest standards for product longevity
- using biodegradable natural latex & Australian wool in place of petrochemical foam and polyester fibres.
- sourcing local furniture components & staff where possible.

Slabs cut from reclaimed logs
The Nicholls Design premises was also designed and built with the intention of lessening our environmental impact. The site employs several means to that end:
- accessing accredited green energy supply
- using tank water (170 000L tank)
- yearly plantings of native flora
